Dear Doctor Afromytee

Too Sweetie Pie

Doc AfroMytee,

Yeast infections! I've tried some natural/alternative remedies like garlic (inserted) and yogurt (eaten), but I'm much more interested in finding out what it is that causes them; especially the recurring ones I am having. Could it be stress related? (It's been an EXTREMELY high stress seven months). Could it be diet related? (I'm a honey freak and eat practically nothing but sweet foods—hence my screen name). I've been to a gynecologist who tested me for STD's (I was very frightened about these recurrent infections so I had her test me for everything). She said I had none, yet did nothing but prescribe the regular three-day Monistat-like treatment and I had yeast again the next month. I also get really sore after extended intercourse, which sucks because of course I envision myself as this insatiable sex goddess and being all sore and tender after one good go-round doesn't exactly make my nite! It didn't stop hurting me when we began to use extra lubrication and I didn't always get sore with him. Could the pain be related to my present yeast issues? I want to get this 'fixed' so I can get back to normal. This is wreaking havoc on my self-identity as sensual diva of the world.

Sweetie Pie

Dear Sweet P,

Sigh ... Why can't I get more letters like yours? You have in essence answered your own questions! Gotta luv those answer-o-matic letters! In the interest of carrying out my destiny of being an ever helpful Goddess (Oy! My life, my life! - pressing palm firmly to forehead.) I will outline your situation:

1. SUGAR DIET = YEAST. By eating all that sugar (that includes breads, too), you have made your pie too darn sweet for its own good! Drink more water and eat less sugar. Deep down you already knew this didn'tja? You sensual diva, you.

2. It is not uncommon for women to have yeast infections before their periods.

3. Yeast infections can be stress related. All Goddesses need to take time to relax and meditate so they may rule with true grace and style—and of course, wage war when it's necessary too. ;-)

4. You are STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) free! Yeah! My, you are a responsible Goddess to have gone to the Yoni doctor to get a check up! I don’t know if yer doc told you this but ... your infection might be caused by a fungus (yes, yeast is a fungus) other than our usual buddy candida albicans. Perhaps that's why the medication didn't work.

5. Natural remedies are for natural ailments, I always say! Add a fresh clove of garlic per day to your diet (not in your Yoni) to assist you. Also douche with tea tree oil in water. Forget the Massengil! Forever!

6. Your discomfort during intercourse sounds like a yeast related problem. Keep in mind that your boyfriend's Lingam can reintroduce yeast into your body at those non-itchy times if he is condomless (tsk, tsk, tsk—shaking the motherly finger at ya if this is true). Men need to be treated for yeast too. Yeast is so smart it doesn't discriminate! Equal opportunity fungus.

Take these suggestions (which you came up with in the first place! Hee hee!) and all will bow down and herald your return as the Sensual Insatiable Diva Sex Goddess you were born to be!

Paz y Amor,

Doc AfroMytee
