Welcome to the December 1999/ January 2000 issue of Purr.

Its the last month of 1999. I don't know about you but I sure will be glad to get this year over with! Its been one of those years where to find a moment of peace you had to actually 'run' away somewhere. I spent most of my running away at the beach. It seemed to be the only place I could find a moment of....no phones, no people who knew me, no demands on my time or energy. Thank God for sun, surf and sand!

Are you ready for Christmas?

I have not even thought about Christmas yet. I do know what I am getting the kids but well, I need to get time to go out and buy it, or even shop on-line. Have I ever bought on-line yet? Sure have! I am not a big shopper. I usually decide what I want then just go out and buy it. I am not one to go shopping just to go shopping. Remember, Christmas is about giving. You should also remember that it is the thought that counts not the price tag! Also remember those less fortunate then you. Give to the agencies that help those in need. Remember the children!

Do you have big plans for New Years Eve? I have not decided what I am doing yet. Its too soon to tell what mood I will be in. I usually decide to do things at the last minute. With the schedules my friends and I have its usually an hour before doing something we decide to do it. It would probably drive most of you nuts. It just always seems that if we try to plan something someone gets called away either because of family or business. I've actually had a wish of what to be doing on New Years Eve but well, I've given up on that one! Maybe some New Years Eve.

I hope you're not going to hide in panic of what might happen. I also would not advise trying to call anyone. I would imagine everyone will be trying to call everyone to see what did happen and the phones will go down from over use! But, then, you can say it was all Y2K! Heaven forbid it be said it was because everyone was trying to call everyone! (It does happen!)

I really do not expect much to happen. I think if anything does it will be temporary. I always worry more about the drunks on the road. There are still too many people that drink and drive and think nothing of it. Some of them have even gotten DUI's before and just don't learn. Remember, you only die once! There is no, "I didn't mean to die". Once you're dead, you're dead!

I think more problems will be caused by those that worry and over panic and do stupid things because of the panic.

Do you make New Years resolutions? I never do. I guess that is because I look at life as each moment as a new beginning. Which actually makes life easier when you dealing with one of those...."Oh, God, just get me through this", type of situations.

If you do make resolutions make them realistic, don't make ones that you know you will not be able to keep. Doing that tends to cause people to then feel bad about not keeping them. Some people then let that eat away at their self esteem. I think the best resolution you could make is to think more positive! Every time you find yourself with negative thoughts, stop, step back from the situation and look at the bigger picture and find the positive. If you can't seem to see anything positive think, 'at least I'm alive" or "at least I did this" or "at least I survived". Your mind is a powerful tool, use it!

Do you doubt how powerful the mind is? Think about this. When I was about 7 or 8 I heard about a person who thought they were dying. They totally completely believed they were dying. They did die. There was absolutely no medical reason for them to die. They died because the believed they were dying. If a person can do that, there is not much they can not do if they set their mind to it. Think about it. Don't waste this powerful tool. Use it to make positive changes in your life and, in the world. Change is only a constructive thought away!
