Welcome to the first real issue of this new year....either the 20th century or the 21st which ever you believe it to be!!
I don't know about you but I'm ready for summer!! Actually I imagine some of you are more ready for summer then I am! Here I am in the upper Midwest and the South and East coast have more snow then we do! It has been interesting as far as winter weather so far!
Business has been weird too! I just keep watching one company gobble up other companies or become partners with each other. Each trying to get the edge in some market or take over a market. First we had music companies taking over other music companies. Now we have combination of different types of companies joining. When will it end??? Are they all really getting the competitive edge? Are they digging a whole to fall into??
Look at Disney, their go.com has made the announcement they will not compete! I love it! Good for them! They instead plan on focusing on what they know best, entertainment and just going to create their own little spot. That alone will probably make them more successful because they are now focusing on themselves and not delving into unknowns that already have heavy competition.
Actually I think that is a bigger step towards the future then anyone realizes. It's the first step in really working together. It's the, "ok, I am good at this, if you are good at that, and we admit this and do the best we can at what we know, we can work together and we have room for all of us to do the best and succeed.
Competition is great for business but it also can destroy the business's that are competing. They can go too far to succeed and fall almost over night. When you lose track of your original goal or product and try to 'take it all' or 'make it all' you have no real focus and spread yourself too thin. That's when someone walks in and takes over because all they want is a spot, not the world.
I think that is true for just about everything. Some people are too busy trying to 'fit' in or be what they are told to be instead of just being themselves. As an individual you can not succeed if you are too busy being something you are not. It will eventually catch up with you!
I love Carl Salonen's column this month. It says it all in a nutshell. I had to laugh after I read it because it is all so true in so many things. The bad thing about it is now that I've read it when I am in the situation where I see two people arguing over who is right or wrong I will probably get a comic mental picture of 'two worlds' colliding. I'll probably start laughing and get everyone mad at me!
So, everyone out there instead of fighting, remember, you are right in your world, but in their world you could be wrong! That means, fighting is not an option unless you combine the worlds and make it one, which unless you there is something that can merge two people into one person it is not worth it???!!!!
So, next time you are ready to argue with someone stop and think, is the argument worth different worlds going to war???? Lets just all try learning the word compromise instead!
Hey! Are you IN LOVE??? Our one and only Johnny Blade helps you out if you are not. He gets to the nitty gritty of on-line searches for love.
I've never used any of the on-line services personally but see the use for them. Most people I know are way too busy and/or never get anywhere to meet that Mr. or Mrs. right
, Myself included! But then, for me, I know right now I don't have time in my life for love. Well, OK, if it popped up and grabbed me you know as I know, I would damn well make the time for it!!! (If it happens will all of you let me use the excuse that Purr was late getting out because I was busy in 'bed'??)
Seriously, it's a great interview and you never know, it could be something you might be interesting in checking out!
Gary Gold takes tells us about his top ten music choices for 1999. I don't know about you but if Gary says the music is good I personally have to check it out. His tastes may vary from yours but you never know, he might get you to add some variety to the music you currently listen to. That's one of the wonderful things with the internet, the availability of music some of us may never had gotten a chance to hear! I personally have found some wonderful music out there. Some if I did even see them in a story probably would not have bought them just because I kind of hate to buy something I am not sure if I will like or not.
I want you to welcome Shefik to Purr, he has started the "Shady Shefik" column in this issue. Shefik has contributed before but now will be a regular columnist. It will be a weekly column and undated every Monday night. Check it out as he keeps us informed about who's who and what they are doing!
There will be more changes in the future as Purr grows and works towards finding out just exactly what its little world will be in this Universe. I hope you continue to come back and maybe grow with us!
Keep Warm and Safe!
