CUTTIN' TO THE BONE
[This is the first entry in a three part series of interviews exploring Nashville Tennessee's underground BDSM community. The first interview is with Nashville's MADAME DR LUSK.]
If you think Nashville, the home of country music, is all cowboy hats and jukebox-blaring-beer joints where the bathroom is out back besides the dumpster in the alley, you need a dose of reality and a vacation to the Mecca which is now known as: "The South Coast." Well, that is, if you are open minded, liberal and have a sense of individuality. You know, the species that will dominate the new millennium and rightfully so? A deep burning desire to explore the inner sanctum of your darker desires, fantasies and the secret dreams you have you thought would never be able to admit to anyone also helps, although, admission is a logical step in the right direction or so I am told. A good party jones is also not to be ignored either. Yep, that's right! The city that Hank built has grown up and entered the new age hosting and recording bands like metal rockers and Grammy Award winners, Mega Death, while most of its original heroes fall by the wayside, sad but true. Other "Big City" (sorry Merle, I had too) growing pains include the increasing gang and drug problems, a never ending revamping of city streets, having to deal with removing the Garth growth that attached itself to every Nashvillian's privates as well as a Republican Governor from hell that took Tennessee to the cleaners, and a system of law enforcement that needs to learn to police themselves before they try to police us. But, all is not lost by any means; there is a Goddess after all? A select few are ushering the screams of the willing from around the globe into the web of the unforgiving and relentless Nashville night, and offering them a different salvation or, if you will, enlightenment and escape from Nashville's cut throat tourist industry. MADAME DR LUSK is one of these ushers. So, fasten your seat belts, eat the red pill and see how far the rabbit hole really goes. [When I arrived for the interview, a man, wearing only a leather dog collar, invited me in to speak with his MISTRESS. As we begin, MADAME DR LUSK is sitting in her personal dungeon along with her naked male slave kneeling at her right side, eyes down.]
Blade: Well, sitting here looking at you I have to ask you before we really begin, just how many piercings do you have?
Blade: No, I hadn't but thank you.
MADAME: No problem, like it?
Blade: Is that a trick question? Now....
MADAME:
Blade: How long have you been a Dominatrix in Nashville?
MADAME: Well, I would say about three years as a professional but I have always had a very dominant personality. It really is: "My way or the highway." It is what it is and I am what and how I am.
Blade: Are you a swinger as well?
MADAME: Yes, as a matter of fact I am. I have been involved in the swinging lifestyle for a little over six years now and loving every minute of it.
Blade: How so?

MADAME: I give others emotional and psychological release and a sense of importance and belonging. However, it really depends on the sub and his or her needs. That question is really too vague to answer correctly. But if all they want is a fu*k, they can get that anywhere on any street corner. I'm much deeper, professional and more important than a quickie on a couch. I perform a service; I do not prostitute myself in any manner whatsoever, period. I don't have to and wouldn't if I did. I am a Dominatrix, not a hooker.
MS. DHARK: Amen.
Blade: But you get paid for your services though, right?
MADAME: Yes, as a Domme I do. I charge $150 the first hour and $100 each additional hour for my services.
Blade: Is that a normal fee?
MADAME: Well, that depends.
Blade: On what?
MADAME: On what is involved in the session. Like I said, everyone sub is different, so the price can vary but on average it is $150 an hour. Some are weekend sessions or all nighters, and of course they are higher but based on a different rate.
Blade: But is that legal? I mean to charge for what you do?
MADAME: MS. DHARK, why don't you answer this one.
MS. DHARK: Sure, I'd love too. (Standing up) This is how it is. If I do a session and the sub wants to c*m, he can do that if I am not in the same room when he does. If I am in the same room, that is prostitution in Tennessee. But that is not what we are about or what we care to make happen. They can get off at home in their bathroom anytime they want for all I care. We are giving them something else, something they can't get anywhere but with a true DOMME. Did you know that even though two people consent to a flogging session by law that is assault? The same law applies to whipping your kids...if I whip my daughter, I could go to jail under the same law for assault, so go figure it out for yourself. Hell, I mean, if you have a belt in the back-seat of your car under a blanket it is carrying a concealed weapon if they want to push the issue.
Blade: Let me get this straight. What your saying is, it is illegal technically but the law is not really enforced?
MS. DHARK: What I am saying is it is illegal when the right wing blue noses get uppity. It is a catch 22. You know, there was a time when the medical community thought everyone involved in BDSM was mental, I mean nuts. Now the medical journals say we are "normal" and we are. You know, in many ways, we're kinda like doctors providing a service because people with depression disorders have found that BDSM relieves their symptoms in some cases. I know some subs that have stopped taking their meds for depression altogether because they just don't need them anymore and they are happy, productive, educated, white collar professionals, and have important high profile roles in society. Anyway, you wanna know if I am worth paying for, that's what your really asking isn't it? Well if your doctor is worth paying for, if your sanity is worth paying for, if saving your marriage, life and well being is worth paying for, than I damn sure am!
MADAME: OK, I think he gets the drift.
MS. DHARK: All right, I'll get off my soap box but you asked me.
(There is a short pause and silence)
Blade: ...Where were we...do you have regular slaves?
Blade: Brand? As in?
MADAME: As in a white-hot poker with my symbol burned into his flesh.
Blade: OH damn, that hurts me just thinking about it. And he wants this?
(Painslut smiles at me then looks away)
MADAME: Well, he is my property, heart, mind and soul. I own him and he accepts that, so does his wife. It does not matter what he wants, it is how he obeys and what he does to please me that is important! I'll show you just how much I own him later. (With that remark, MADAME lights a cigarette and orders her slave to fetch her an ashtray)
Blade: Your scaring me now.
MADAME: Of course I am!
MS. DHARK: (Laughing)
Blade: So, are you married?
MADAME: No, I am divorced but living in a triad. I do have two great boys that are 22 and 24 years old that are out of the nest. They both know about my lifestyle and we have a great relationship, they are the greatest!
Blade: Triad?
MADAME: Yes. I live with another female and a man in a triad relationship. Alan and Marilyn are sturdy foundations in my life right now. They are not in the BDSM lifestyle but understand that I am, and we all respect each other's needs.
Blade: Are they swingers as well?
MADAME: Yes they are. We operate an adult business, Rated 21 Video & CD, in Nashville. I am opening a dungeon there also. But our favorite playtime is at TSC to date. That is the Tennessee Social Club in Nashville. They have a great dungeon there also that is run by some very cool people.
