SUMMERSAULT 2000

The members of Our Lady Peace are pleased to announce that their vision to take the multi-band festival Summersault on a national tour has been realized. Our Lady Peace's Summersault 2000 will roll across Canada from Vancouver to Halifax in August of 2000 bringing together some of OLP's favorite Canadian and international artists into one giant traveling festival. The Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, A Perfect Circle, The Catherine Wheel, Treble Charger and Eve 6 will be joining Our Lady Peace on one of this summer's hottest festival tours. The Summersault experience will feature two stages, a vendor village, and some very cool surprises.

Summersault will kick off in Vancouver, British Columbia, at BC Place on August 4. The tour will continue across Canada hitting Edmonton's Commonwealth Stadium on August 6, the Saskatchewan Place in Saskatoon on August 7, the Winnipeg Stadium on August 9, Molson Park in Toronto on August 11, Montreal's Parterre, parc Jean-Drapeau on August 12, the Rideau Carleton Raceway in Ottawa on August 13, and wrap up in Halifax at Citadel Hill on August 16.

Our Lady Peace conceived Summersault in 1998 as a traveling multi-artist festival. The first Summersault consisted of five shows with such acts as Garbage, Crystal Method, Sloan, Hayden, Esthero and I Mother Earth sharing the stage with OLP.

"This news is so exciting for me and the rest of the band as we've been working on this for the last 4 or 5 months," said Our Lady Peace vocalist Raine Maida. "Taking this tour nationally was our plan from the beginning, and we always wanted to bring on board friends of ours and bands that we're completely impressed by musically. It's going to be a great day of music."

Fans are encouraged to log onto the tour's official website at www.summersault2000.com for more details and information about the festival.

THE REAL LATIN EXPLOSION

In a quest to provide a soulful backdrop and historical underpinning to the ongoing explosion of Latin music into the pop and R&B mainstreams, Columbia/Legacy presents three new releases from artists whose work provided the foundation for today's steamy sounds. From legendary Afro-Cuban conguero and bandleader MONGO SANTAMARIA comes his never-before-released recording of 1969, AFRO AMERICAN LATIN (with live bonus tracks), along with an 'Expanded Edition' of his perennial best-seller, the never out-of-print GREATEST HITS album, also with bonus tracks.

At the same time, THE MUSIC OF CUBA 1909-1951 represents the first time in the digital era that the vast 20th century archives of Columbia Records (and its associated labels) have been mined for this storehouse of Latin riches. Three decades before such familiar figures as Desi Arnaz (heard on two tracks in this anthology) and Xavier Cugat emerged on the scene, Columbia had already begun amassing a repertoire of Cuban dance-band music. From the World War I-era danzón melodies to the exciting son rural style that revolutionized music in Havana during the 1920s, from the evocative boleros to the infectious rumba and conga dance crazes that swept popular music from the '30s to the '50s, this 25-track collection draws together an extraordinary array of artists and genres. All three new releases have been set for July 4 th in-store date on Columbia/Legacy, a division of Sony Music.

LEGACY'S RHYTHM & SOUL

The golden age of '70s and '80s soul and R&B ? as recorded by its greatest East Coast and West Coast voices on the Columbia, Epic, and Philadelphia International labels ? continues to be the focus of attention on four new digitally remastered entries, as the critically acclaimed Rhythm & Soul Series begins its fifth year on the street. The four new releases cover the broadest spectrum of R&B activity over the course of nearly two decades, ranging from the incandescent future funk of EARTH, WIND & FIRE and the tight, mellow harmonies of THE O'JAYS, to the emotionally charged ballads of singer-songwriter BILL WITHERS and the final complete studio album recording by MARVIN GAYE. All four releases have been scheduled for May 30(superscript: th) in-store date on Legacy recordings, a division of Sony Music.

This time around, the Rhythm & Soul Series takes off behind two re-grooved greatest hits collections, THE BEST OF EARTH, WIND & FIRE, VOL. II, which adds two bonus tracks to the original 1988 set; and BILL WITHERS' THE BEST OF BILL WITHERS: LEAN ON ME, on which Withers participated in the selection of material from his classic Sussex and Columbia LPs. THE O'JAYS' #1 R&B album, SURVIVAL, is a classic Gamble & Huff production from 1975 that is presented intact, featuring the lead-off #1 single, "Give the People What They Want." MARVIN GAYE released his last studio masterpiece in 1982 on Columbia, MIDNIGHT LOVE, featuring "Sexual Healing," and now augmented with a rarely heard bonus track from those recording sessions, the instrumental version of "Rockin' After Midnight."

As with previous editions of the Rhythm & Soul Series, this latest batch contains a generous helping of Billboard Pop Singles and Soul Singles chart signatures. At the same time, each album is given its rightful place in the annals of R&B history, with specially-commissioned liner notes by some of our most respected writers and journalists. Liner notes for Marvin Gaye and Bill Withers were written by David Ritz, whose books include Divided Soul: The Life Of Marvin Gaye, and biographies of Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, B.B. King and others. Liner notes for the O'Jays were written by Vertamae Smart-Grosvenor, cultural correspondent for National Public Radio. Liner notes for Earth, Wind & Fire were written by Virginia Prescott of New York Public Radio station WNYC.

AMERICAN MILESTONES

Six decades of country music history, from the 1930s to the 1980s, are explored on the latest editions of the American Milestones series, a series dedicated to surveying the roots of traditional country music and preserving classic albums from the LP era in restored Expanded Editions. The second set of releases in this highly-respected series from the Columbia/Legacy and Epic/Legacy divisions of Sony Music arrive in stores on July 4th , coinciding with Willie Nelson's annual July 4th picnic extravaganza outside Austin, Texas.

MEET MR. NITRO

Mr. Nitro, Oklahoma City's premier rapper and major entrepreneur/organizer the formidable local underground rap scene, has contributed his own unique remix of Destiny's Child's "Jumpin Jumpin" track, getting such strong radio reactions from radio programmers that his remix will be included in the commercial release of the single.

Mr. Nitro's debut album, Hustlin' Pays, was released on Columbia Records May 30. The album represents a unique showcase for a wide range of talents from his hometown's criminally overlooked indigenous hip hop scene, the various members of whom collaborate with Mr. Nitro on all the tracks on the album.

Mr. Nitro is preparing to open for Trick Daddy on a series of Florida dates following the release of his album.
