Music is an intricate part of our lives. Music is also a very individual thing. What some think is music others will think is just a mere noise and sometimes irritating. The first screams of a newborn is music to the parents ears To some the sound of a gentle breeze whistling thru the trees is music, while others think music is only the sound of hard banging drums with the guitars scream as a singer blares out his words.
As listeners songs become important to us sometimes by coincidence. We hear a song when we first kiss; we hear another song as our lover breaks up with ups. Music reminds of us things, it enhances the moment and the song then forever reminds us of our past.
We tend to want to have music at every event of our life. We celebrate with music. Usually the music we play is not written for that specific event or part of our life. We choose what we feel fits according to our own musical tastes.
Most musicians write their music from inspiration with no real thought as to who or where it will be played. It's a thought, a note that they need to make something out of. Eric Alexandrakis has decided to go further then that with his music. He has taken a life experience and instead of writing about it with words has show his talent by using instruments and objects from life to make music to share his experience in fighting Hodgkin's disease.
I first opened up the CD and did the quick scan through. You know, listening to the first few moments of each track. I had not read any information about him or his CD and my first impression was…"This is interesting!" I tend to get bored very easily and love it when a CD has variety of songs on it. (Meaning not every song sounds the same as the last song) Eric not only uses unusual items as his instigated instruments but he touch many of the genres of music. The music ranges from moments of soft pop to head banging metal. He takes a little rap, a little retro, a little street and sweet soft sounds of a ballad and rolls it into a song.
You will find yourself rocking to the beat and amazed at how what he uses mixes into such wonderful music. I then read about Eric and how the and why the CD was produced and was even more amazed with his talent. To be going through what he had to been going through both emotionally and physically and still produce music this good is truly amazing. It is a CD you must hear at least once. But I doubt hearing it once will be enough!
