In the summer of 1995 Prettypony was formed more of less by accident. Greg Der Anania, Molly Kaman and Shannon LaBoskey were just jamming when Nick Quagliara walked by and asked them if they wanted to play that weekend in the show he was putting on. They did not have a name or a drummer but said what the hell and said yes. Then the panic set in. They picked the name and and went looking for a drummer. That was how they started. The band members now are Greg Der Anania, Shannon La Boskey, Sylvia Gubatan and Ryan Hicks. Not all of them are those who play the band's first gig but they are what is now Prettypony.
Prettypony is rather an unusual band in as they have a political/feminist/sex positive edge and do songs about high school, masturbation and classism. The music is alternative/punk/retro and not music that everyone will like. Its on the verge of head banging/posh pit the in some parts of the CD but not too far in that direction. The music is energetic and the band works well together putting out a tight energetic sound. I can easily see the song Our Miss Brooks becoming a favorite of the clubs.
The band is different and bi-sexual. The music is diverse. The band is having fun playing the music and this tends to carry over to the listeners. The lyrics are a little unusual but to some this will be an attraction. I would say if you like the punk or retro type of music you will like this CD.
All songs are written by Prettypony. The recording and mix was done by Vess Ruhtenberg and LonPaul Ellrich. The graphic design and art direction are by Aaron Tilford.
