Blue - Holly's song

BLUE releases "Holly's Song", his seventh independent solo album.

Independent solo recording artist BLUE (his real, legal and only name) will release "Holly's Song", his seventh solo album, not counting compilations, side projects or work with other artists, since his debut in 1990. As has been the case with all of BLUE's albums, "Holly's Song" will be released on BLUE's own label; Sanity Check Musec, Inc.

"Holly's Song" is one of those dreaded "rock operas". BLUE calls the album "a gothic drama in four acts". The record tells the story of a suicidal artist, who is haunted by the ghost of a small child after he loses the love of his life. The 57 minute work blurs genres to tell the story without restriction. As with all of BLUE's solo albums he wrote, composed, arranged, engineered, produced and performed the record. It is a solo album in the truest sense.

BLUE has been releasing independent records since his debut with "Welcome to the Nineties" in February of 1990. He received attention in 1991/92 with the underground release of "The Lion's Den" which was nominated for an Independent Music Award ("Indie Award") by the National Association of Independent Record Distributors (NAIRD) for best Alternative album. This was the first time the alternative category was used. Smashing Pumpkins took the honor.

BLUE formed Sanity Check Musec, Inc. in 1989. SCM is an independent record label, publishing company and "catch-all" corporation for satisfying the legal requirements of BLUE's artistic endeavors. BLUE has no desire or aspirations for signing with a major label. These works are not "stepping stones". Though Sanity Check has previously been home to a number of independent artists, it operates primarily as a "vanity label" at this time, offering works from BLUE, his side projects and a few close friends.

BLUE has done quite a bit of work as a producer, engineer and performer for other artists. He has also recently done quite a bit of work producing and directing short films, with work screened in two festivals last year. He formed Naked Acre Compound Films (a division of SCM) to operate as a vehicle for his film/video dabbling.

In September of the year 2000 Sanity Check Musec, Inc. will begin a valiant indpendent push on behalf of "Holly's Song", offering an alternative to the current popular music landscape. The Orchard will distribute "Holly's Song", making it immediately available at all major online record stores and available for ordering through all major chains that offer such service. Sanity Check has also established a full online store on its own Website that offers the entire SCM catalog.
