SHORT SHORT STORY COMPETITION
LONG ON CASH PRIZES
Writer's Digest Issues Challenge to Writers "Be brief -- and show us your
shorts!"
Writer's Digest magazine, the world's
leading magazine for writers is pleased to announce the 2000 SHORT SHORT
STORY COMPETITION. Writers of short fiction are invited to enter their best
brief fiction, under 1,500 words, for consideration. The publisher is
offering more than $4000 in cash prizes. Complete rules and entry forms can
be found on the publisher's website at www.writersdigest.com short XXX.
Deadline for all entries is December 1st, 2000.
"Writing the short story is mistakenly considered easier than writing book
length fiction," says Writer's Digest editor Melanie Rigney. "But to tackle
the short short story, and end with a piece of work that is both brilliant,
and brief, is perhaps more challenging." For this reason, the editors chose
to spotlight the short short story and encourage writers to send in their
work for consideration.
The First Place winner of the competition will receive $1500 cash. Second
Place and Third Place will receive $750 and $500 respectively. The 4th -
10th place winners will be awarded $100 cash. Those finishing in 11th - 25th
place will win a $50 gift certificate toward any purchase from the Writer's
Digest Books catalog.
All entries must be original, unpublished and not submitted elsewhere until
the winners are announced on February 1, 2001. The names of the winners will
be posted on the publisher's website at www.writersdigest.com, and published
in the July 2001 issue.
