December 2000 / January 2001

Editor in Chief

Its December of 2000, this year is almost over.  Some believe this is the true turn of the century.  I tend to agree and disagree.  I know that sounds strange but it is a debate where both sides can be right based on your outlook.

I think 2000 has been a year to endings and beginnings.  A year to get your act together as much as you can and show where your future path is headed, at least, that is what it has seemed to me.  I have felt all year long that how we dealt with things this year will effect what will be the main effect of how good next year is.  That really is not as off the wall as it sounds and not any different then every day of our lives.  Our actions are ripples that come back to us in one shape or form.  For every action there is a reaction.

I really do not believe this year's election.  Personally, I would throw them both out right now and just start over and have a new election with different people.  Sorry, but, I honestly do not think this next term after all of this will be one where either one would be able to function properly as a president of this country.  We all have lost face; we are a joke to the world.  We are even a joke to those of our own country.  Do you really think our government will now work
together?  They had a hard time of it before but now you even have people within the same party disagreeing more then
normal.  But, then, you never know.  Maybe it will work out.  Maybe they will work to help the people no matter what party they are in because they know the next election there will be more people then ever out voting and paying attention to what was done in this term.  I do not think too many people will feel that it does not make a difference if they do not vote.  We all make a difference.

I have already heard rumors that we should all get ready for a depression.  I don't know where the rumors stemmed from, I only heard 'they' are saying we could have one.  I don't think we will have one.  I do think we are going to have a lot of changes going on that will effect a lot of companies and a lot of people.

Look at the gas prices.  They went up.  We were told that it was not affecting anyone.  We did have people complain, it was investigated, it was shown there were no reasons for it to go up…. other then greed, and yet, have they really gone down?  No, we keep getting told how it has not stopped anyone yet from buying gas, or made him or her change his or her lifestyles in any way.  I am sorry, but companies have already closed because of it.  The problem is that the total effect has not rippled down yet because we are all caught up in so many things going on that the cause and effect has not sunk in yet.  I was honestly surprised the truckers did not throw a fit about the gas prices.  Sure, it only went up in mid-America and ended up bring us up to what other areas of the US pay but it will still have an effect not only here but all over.  Don't you think once they realize the profit margin has gone down that they will raise the prices of the products being driven to the markets?  Remember, we are a country/world based on greed!

We also have technology going forward at amazing speed.  We are taking more and more of the human factor out of just about everything we do.  It does open up other jobs, but they are technical jobs.  Do you realize that a large percent of your country did not graduate high school? I will not quote a
figure because I do not remember it and when I tried to find the article that I read about it I could not.  But I was shocked when I read it. Where is that going to leave them?

What about how we are heading towards all our appliances being computer connected?  Lets log-on and turn this on or turn that off.  All very track able to say the least!  All our phone conversations, all our email to some extent is already read or scanned.  Personally, I don't care.  I have nothing to hide and would imagine if anyone did take the time to read or listen to what's in my life they would get a good laugh from it all.  But we are heading towards being totally connected.  Now, that is scary.

I personally will hold out as long as I can on getting 'connected' but what you don't realize is we will get to a point that we will have no choice.  That will be our own fault.  We will go for convince not looking at the whole
picture.  Although, It may not happen in my lifetime but it will in either my children's' or my grandchildren's lifetime.  Do you want that?

We are also destroying our planet.  Have you noticed the changes in bird's habitats?  We never had sea gulls here until 5 years ago.  We only have rivers and ponds in this area.  What is that saying about our lakes?

We have a tendency to think that if it is in another country, not ours, it does not effect us.  (Or state, or county, or neighborhood)  How silly and self centered we humans are.  If we had learned to look at big pictures and past the mighty dollar we would have been prepared.  Do you think NY ever worried about West Nile virus?  Did you realize that Ebola has now shown up in two other countries?  Gee, it will never strike here in the states!  Are you sure?

Did you remember to buy the antibacterial soap/cleaner?  Does it matter that the medical society says that in most cases it is not needed and that we even need to cut back on our antibiotics that we take?  Have you ever thought about how using the antibacterial products not only kill bacteria on what your cleaning but also in the ground where it gets dumped?  Don't tell me you don't dump it in the ground!  It either goes down a drain or in the trash, which both lead to finally hitting the soil of Mother Earth!

How much of the good bacteria are we killing too?  How much of the bad bacteria is adapting to what we are doing and becoming either stronger or evolving to something new?

We have so much going on in so many areas that it is so hard to keep track of.  If we each as individuals do not start
taking the time to look around and see what is going on in the world I think we will someday find out what is going on way too late to do anything about it.

It's going to be a new year.  Why not start it out right by remembering you do make a difference.  This world is really a small place and we are all living on the same planet.

Recycle, become a mentor, become a big brother or a sister to a child in need.  As far as that goes, if you are a parent do you know where your kids are?

Don't judge others.  You may have no idea what is honestly
going on in their life or what all they have to deal with.  Give them the benefit of doubt.

Learn to appreciate others talents.  You, yourself are not the center of the world and others can do good things, even great things.  Thank them for sharing their talent.

Stop running from life and learn to live life.

Stop and "Smell the Roses", look at the stars; take time to feel a gentle breeze.  Look at the gifts God and Nature gave us!  They may not always be here!  It's the being thankful for the little things.  It's the finding the good in a bad situation.

Learn to say No!  Not just to Drugs but to the things in life that steal life from us.  The people who waste our time with negativity. Say no to hate and prejudice.

Learn to prioritize as to what is important and what can wait.

Remember People.  Life is short and if you do not take time for those you love you will find that they will be gone before you know it.

Lean to think for yourself!  Who cares if what you think or feel is different then those around you.  Are you really so sure they are right?

Learn balance.  Learn to balance between others demands and your own wants and needs.  Learn to balance work and play.  Learn balance in to give and take.

Learn to get a long, to work things out.

Learn respect for yourself and for all others.

Learn that reality is nothing more then a figment of your imagination.  It's actually understanding the power of the mind. It's the acceptance of life and the only true limitations we have are those we set for ourselves. It's the matrix of life.

May the sun warm your heart
May the breeze cleanse your soul
May the rain quench your thirst
May the earth feed your hunger
May the moon guide you home
And May the stars give you wonderful dreams as you sleep!

God bless!

Happy New Year!  May it be your best year yet!
