Could there be a resurgence of female power rock? I sure hope so. In the 80's, female hard rock bands like Love Goddess and Vixen, had an impact on the heavy metal scene.

Today, Mylar an all female power trio out of NYC, is making waves on the local scene. Mylar has captured an unconventional sound, while at the same time they have maintained a kick as beat!

Mylar's music is a fusion of punk, alternative, and heavy metal rock music. Fronted by lead singer and bass player, Mary Saragoussi; their style is nothing short of inventive and razor sharp. Mylar's self-titled debut four song EP, is a display of their raw talents. The opening track "Judgement" is a unique blend of punk and hard rock. The band's vocal screeches give an exclamation point to this track. "Infreakwent" has the feel of an old Black Sabbath-Deep Purple song. Steady rhythms and a pounding base just begin to show the bands talents. My favorite track on this EP is "Noncohesive." A true showcase of the drummers talent, backed up by fine guitar and base work. The final song on the EP is "Belligerent." A slow and melodical track where it's direction is derived from the guitar and drum work. This song will have fans flickering their lighters everywhere.

Over all Mylar's first EP is a good display of their developing talents. Mylar has performed in clubs all over the NYC area, including CBGB's, Spiral Lounge, Castle Heights and L'Amours.
