Gainesville, Florida, May 18, 2001: The Bedeteca de Lisboa is showing an art exhibit in Lisbon, Portugal by cartoonist and musician James Kochalka running from May 18 through June 3, 2001.  Open since 1996, Bedeteca of Lisbon is the only place in Portugal which is permanently devoted to comics.  Bedeteca also organizes an annual convention related to such work.  Kochalka's exhibit is about his comics and music.  Bedeteca is exhibiting the original artwork from the comic book that comes with the Monkey Vs. Robot CD and from the Carrot Boy the Beautiful CD.  Bedeteca also has listening stations where people can read Kochalka's graphic novel Kissers and listen to the CD at the same time.
James Kochalka's distinction as a "rock star" has been tempered more and more lately by his acclaim as a cartoonist.  Critics and fans have responded like crazy to his ubiquitous and instantly recognizable one-pagers in comics and magazines across the U.S., and to his full length comic books and graphic novels.  Kochalka has won and has been nominated for many prestigious awards such as the Ignatz award, the Eisner award, the Firecracker Alternative Books award, and the Harvey award.
