During a summer trip to the Outer Banks in North Carolina, one band's name kept coming up, Mullet Roe. I was very excited to learn that there was still a band playing good straight-forward rock-and-roll. Though I never got to see them live, I did finally get a hold of their CD, "And Then it Began." Would Mullet Roe be able to live up to all of the hype? The answer is an unambiguous yes. With comparisons to rock bands like Bad Religion and Creed, they displayed powerful lyrics and a gripping musical presence. The hottest track on their debut CD is the opening track "Desert Highway." The moment I heard this track I knew I was headed back into the realm of real rock. Mullet Roe's strength lye's in their song lyrics. "Eternal Grief" shows off the bands soul penetrating song writing abilities, while still being able to display lead singer Jim Sheets compelling voice. The second track on the CD is "A Choice." Opening with an ear-catching base line, followed by a kicking drum beat and leading into high pitch guitar squeals, proves that these boys are quickly approaching rock-and-roll's spotlight. Mullet Roe has the advantage of playing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, a vacation resort area for many Americans. This advantage has made it possible to perform in front of and acquire new fans at almost every show. At the end of March, 2001, Mullet Roe will travel to Panama City Beach, Florida to play at the Full Tilt Battle of the Bands. By time you read this they should have already won. Mullet Roe is a band that will make waves in the rock scene. Strong lyrics combined with intense energy crazed music, will fuel their way to the apex of success.
