Have you ever wondered about the start of the Beatles or any other band? How did they come together and how do band members lives intertwine? Do you honestly think that band for the most part started as they end up…as you see them once they become known for who they are?
The Quarrymen not only digs down into the actual beginning of the band but the into the lives of the original band members. Their school experiences, their friends their background is brought forth to you in an interesting almost novel format. The book tells about the era that they came from and the life as it was in the fifties until the present and how it shaped and molded each person. It is not only a book about the band actual roots.
England in the fifties still had remnants of bomb shelters, the schools and how they differed so much from current day in some ways but still the clicks of modern times. The family members and their influences not only on the individual upbringing but the support or lack of support that was given is shown in the book.
Were the Beatles innocent great musicians from the start? How they learned to play and where and how they got the instruments for the band. What were the events leading to the final members of John, Paul, George and Ringo. It’s all in The Quarrymen.
The book is very interesting, easy to read and illustrated.. If you are interested in the Beatles it is a must read book. If you are in a band and trying to get ahead but you seem to run into one obstacle after another you might get some encouragement from the book.
Hunter Davies is the author of the only authorized Beatles biography, as well as over 30 other books. He is an unrivalled commentator on The Beatles and the culture that surrounds them.
